Debuts

~ Kicking things off at #39... No.

~ Next is a re-entry, something very rare these days but a welcome one nonetheless. Shallow was a song I was very indifferent on during its first tenure but soon grew to like right as it left. Good thing it's back.

~ Welcome to the countdown, Hurts Like Hell! ...now please stay forever. Despite a general consensus of thinking it's terrible, I personally think it's amazing, partly because I fell for Madison's voice and partly due to the fact that Offset was removed. It just seems to be one of those that every time I listen to it it gets better, and hopefully this sticks around for a good long while.

~ Genius is a perplexing case. I liked it on its own when it blew up last summer, but the addition of Lil Wayne's part was interesting in the least. It felt like a ruiner at first, but again, it was a grower.

~ Let's get one thing straight. GIRL  S U C K S. It's just another putdown of men by a woman who's trying way, way too hard. It's slow and boring. Maren Morris was ruined by The Middle. And the worst thing? It's super popular. Might as well suffer through this keeping a fiery hate on standby.

~ So, ALL THE WAYS. Yet another installment in the Everyone Hates Meghan series, but to be fair, this is just flat-out adorable any way you listen to it. Sure, some might disregard it as trash bubblegum pop, and they wouldn't be totally off as it does feel off at some points, but it's nice to have Meghan Trainor back on the charts again, even if her album was scrapped.

~ Lastly, the all-star collab known as 11 Minutes debuted. Yet another one where Halsey doesn't sound half bad! I never knew how well this song fit well with both her and her boyfriend Yungblud, but it really does once you listen to it more. With Without Me on the drop and Eastside spending forever here, it's time for another fresh tune from Miss Frangipane on the countdown.

Blurbs Like Hell

~ Can we just have a new #1 for once in a while? 11 weeks in the year and only 3 #1 songs. It just feels like we need a change, especially with the bad choices. Sucker, SBP, LMDS, 7 rings and WDYL are the most likely (at least based on airplay) are the most likely candidates.

~ Speaking of Sucker, I did NOT see that high debut coming. All I'll say is that I knew it would debut high, I'm glad I was there for it and I hope it does well.

~ When I last posted, Let Me Down Slowly debuted. Now it's at #4. Hmm.

~ Cutting through this sappy bullshit, Without Me has spent enough time at the top. I didn't think I would ever be sick of it, but I am.

~ Yes, I hate Who Do You Love. It's a rare misfire for both parties involved, and I really expected more. I dread knowing this will hit #1, but we all know it will.

~ But I LOVE Dancing With A Stranger. It's another one where the two voices fit extremely well with each other, playing their parts in a sort of musical act. And when it hits the crescendo and they're singing together? It proves that the two people were mean to be there with each other in the first place.

~ And yes, I hate 2002. In the past little while, I've grown to really notice how very bland the song was and started to dislike it more and more. I did like it for a small bit recently, but the magic's gone for me.

~ I never really got into Sunflower. Even though it's been popular everywhere, I just never really found its appeal.

~ Love Lies - soon to be gone too soon.

~ As for the exits, we said goodbye to some really annoying ones (Shotgun and Limitless in particular), but we also got rid of one of my favorite songs ever to grace the Hits 1 airways in Grip. So rest in peace, you will be missed, and I hope you'll get the life you deserved someday.

Biggest Jump Of The Week: Backstreet Boys - Don't Go Breaking My Heart (+14)

Debuts

~ The lowest debut was Let Me Down Slowly at #34. I haven't listened to it that much, but I already like the way he structured this song. His voice fits well with it and I really hope this will stay a while.

~ Next is Nervous. Already better than In My Blood, he really should have done these types of energetic songs from the start. (It's funny because of the name and the sound.) Knowing Shawn Mendes' history, this one should do pretty well, but will probably only peak somewhere around #13 or #12 given its status as not a lead single.

~ Sunflower, I really don't know what to say about you. It's nice hearing a song that's shot up meteorically in popularity and is actually pretty decent enter, and I like Mr. Lee's presence on this song, but don't let it Swae you (sorry) from the fact that it's Post Malone. Seriously. The only reason this will peak as high as it will is because it's Post Malone.

~ Lastly, we have the beautiful, amazing, alluring and near-perfect... Consequences. (You thought I would say Camila, didn't you? Sick bastard.) But seriously, this song is the best. She certainly did a great job writing this and was able to show off her vocal capabilities in the best way. The soft, piano-like tone of the song fits perfectly with a singer like her and she made it work spectacularly. I certainly hope this one stays a long time, and knowing Camila, her captivation will keep this around for quite a while.

Blurb Me Down Slowly (yes, I will do the cringy titles as well. Try and fucking stop me)

~ This is perhaps the best Top 5 so far in the 3 weeks I've been back. Save for our #1, I certainly wish Happier would have stayed there.

~ Without Me at #3 is honestly not a surprise, and I'm with the consensus that she could have done better with this song. Hopefully it won't spend too long at the top when it eventually gets there. Five weeks or more and it's going in orange.

~ Turn Anne-Marie around. (This blurb presented by 2002 GANG)

~ Broken even moving up one spot still gets on my nerves. I'll say it again: This song should not be on this countdown.

~ However, breathin making a move towards the top excites me. Ariana needs a #1 song off Sweetener, and this one should do the trick.

~ Aaaaand Girls Like You is moving back up. I have grown into this song, but only a touch. Cardi B's verse is still the best part of it, but Maroon 5 still sucks ass.

~ Thank you so much, Hits 1, for #23-#28! Easily the best section of the countdown not the top 10.

~ The Middle dropped. Enough said.

~ Shame that I Wanna Know is on its way out. It was quite decent.

~ But obviously the big pleasure of the week is Kamikaze taking a tumble all the way towards the bottom. You wanna know why I hate it, WAMB10? Well, lyrically it's okay, but just his voice combined with the pattern of the song just grates on me in the absolute worst way. And the fact that Alt Nation and others have kept it around ALL SUMMER is also super annoying. Please get this song off the countdown as fast as possible.

~ Delicate is still here, and I'm honestly not complaining. Too hard.

~ With Consequences debuting, this mean's we'll say goodbye to Beautiful real soon. I can certainly understand given my love of the former, but Beautiful definitely deserved better.

~ And speaking of big pleasures, we finally got rid of the steaming piece of dog shit that was Drew Barrymore. Just never let this song be anywhere anymore. People's ears need to be spared.

~ On the topic of recent exits, while I was writing that last blurb, Happy Now played on TV. Like I said last week, this was far better than Lost in Japan and I'm praying for the small chance that it re-enters. (Don't hate me, I swear.)

~ Finally, as expected, let us pay our respects to Heart to Break. This song graced our airwaves for a good 2 or 3 months and peaked at #23. For a first time artist, that wasn't bad. Listening to her other songs, none seemed to be quite as good as this one. So to Hits 1 and "Miss" Petras - thank you for its time and I hope to hear it again soon at least somewhere.

Top 5 Picks:

1.
Anne-Marie - 2002
2. Marshmello/Bastille - Happier
3. Camila Cabello - Consequences
4. Silk City/Dua Lipa - Electricity
5. Benny Blanco/Halsey/Khalid - Eastside

Bottom 5 Picks:

1.
Walk The Moon - Kamikaze
2.
Dan + Shay - Tequila
3. Zedd/Maren Morris/Grey - The Middle
4.
lovelytheband - Broken
5. Maroon 5/Cardi B - Girls Like You

That's it for me this week, and writing this was as fun as I remember.
